I am in the middle of designing my database and I think I have a bit too many columns but I don't really want to make another table. I have 12 at the moment  Scared

What does everyone else think? How many columns are too much? What is the most columns you've ever seen in a table.

Post your traumatic experiences here:

It really depends louiss. Do any of the columns you have not hold similar data? Ie Home Phone, Work Phone, Mobile Phone, Fax Phone, X Phone, Y Phone?

Generally when I create a table and there is more then 3 columns that will hold similar data, I will create a new table to hold that data.

I always trying to keep my tables at or below 15 columns.  If I know it is going to require more, I split it up into two or more tables.

The whole question is moot.  Any database should be normalized and thus the column count is irrelevant.
