Hey everyone. I'm posting today to collect some ideas and desires from all of you. I know Pablo has been considering upgrading this forum as we all deserve some truly pimped out software and I'd like to offer mine as I feel something I develop will probably better meet our needs as I'm a developer just like all of you. I'm learning a lot from my new job as I work with geniuses like Simon Horwith, Nic Tunney and my good friend Jonathan Rowny. My main concern is learning about good software architecture (as I'm picking up web standards and usability on my own and love it) so my forums have always been pushed back mainly to my crazy amount of work in cfform flash. As I'm designing it carefully now and I want to collect some requirements. I'd love to know what functionality about this forum you love and just cannot live without and what functionality you don't see here but you would very much like implemented. Hope to hear from all of you!

Currently working on a fully accessible Forum, which validates as full CSS and XHTML 1.0 Strict. It will be open source and available to all.

Hey, im new here so i thought i would start getting involved. Some suggestions and some nice to haves. One thing i find annoying but understand why its there is the "Secret Word" i am really a kind of guy who is all about the quick post and what not and one less step would be nice. Maybe some sort of IM engine - so say we know someone is online on the board we can send them a quick IM instead of the PM - something real time...dont know if its possible just getting into CF. I may have more ideas for the entire site seeing this is my business...i would love to offer some of my ideas for the overall site. Thanks

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions. Yes I'd love to implement a live chat system in the forums I'm creating! Its something I've always thought as I've learned more about CF to see if I could create. I'm wondering if maybe cfform and flash remoting might be able to solve that for me as I'm not a Java guy at all. But I'm sure using Java could be a great solution for a live IM type of engine. I agree about the Captcha implementation as its purpose is very useful but at the same time I hate i but its something we have to live with as many people out there aren't as nice as we are and are out to ruin our software. I don't plan to implement that in my set of forums but only because I feel it should be up to the community if its something that should be implemented. If I'm correct easycfm hasn't had anything like that before for a long time until tipcell came along and got really irritating. How many users do we have here?? Got to be at least a few hundred as a rough estimate but we never needed a captcha thing before. Keep the suggestions coming!

Thats why I said at least a few hundred, I was to lazy to see the page finish loading so made a rough estimate. Maybe even more then a thousand. I checked the page but didn't see a count anywhere.

Oh i totally understand the spam issues - but usually thats managed by moderators and the abilities to block potential spamers from using our boards... but hey as i said its not that i hate it its just one less step to post... Oh an i had a thought.... What would the possibility be of adding rss feeds? and the ability to add a blog?

I think EasyCFM's forums went for a good amount of time without having to resort to captcha, and i think pablo did well in the short amount of time since TipCell started spamming the forums its a necessary evil unfortunately

Flags/Indentifer to let you know either: A. Which posts you have not read or not read since last post. (probably a lot of DB interaction) Tek-Tips does this with a NEW icon. B. A line seperating new posts since you logged in last or since your last session. (just a date/time calcuation from last login and post date/time) Just some way to help use know where we left off in reading posts.

some editor work. Well, my only gripe is when you click an button the code is inserted at the bottom of the document and not where the cursor is or if you highlight something then it should wrap those tags around what is highlighted. I also don't like the stripping out of two concurrent apostrophes. Something in the code blocks should stay the way they are.
