I think it looks great. Very clean, and easy to navigate.
My 1 suggestion would be on your links, where you change the style onmouseover and onmouseout. They seem to change size, which causes them to 'jump' a bit (specifically, the menuBar class). Don't know if that was intentional or not.
I've always found that to be a bit...disconcerting. Just my opinion.
As far as learning stored procs, etc...don't try and rush into everything at once. Take your time, read over the tutorials here, and continue to ask questions in the forums.
You may even find some other 'best practices' that'll help speed up your site other than stored procs that will be easier to implement (i'm thinking <cfqueryparam>)
